Mudjacking is a repair process for various concrete slab structures that have hazardous or misaligned leveling due to soil settlement underneath. A sidewalk that has become an unsightly trip-and-fall hazard due to a raised or lowered edge or corner can be leveled by the mudjacking repair process.

Before Jax Mudjacking begins any service we always explain to the customer exactly what it is we will be doing. Occasionally a project is unique and a unique process is performed. But, the overwhelming majority of repairs are performed in a similar way. We evenly drill a series of two inch holes into the concrete slab being repaired. Slurry (a mixture of soil, concrete and other substances) is injected into these holes. The pressure underneath will cause the concrete slab to rise. The voids underneath are filled and the soil foundation is interspersed with the slurry providing stability. The experienced technician knows precisely how much slurry to inject. A “grout” matching the color of your existing concrete slab and will not shrink, is filled into the two inch holes. In a matter of hours you are good to go, problem solved.

Generally, the cost of mudjacking is about $4 per square foot, but estimating the square feet involved takes skill.  
Sometimes, a bigger area might cost the same as a smaller area.  This is because the cost to bring the truck and the crew out is fixed no matter what the area is.  

As you would expect, the bigger the problem, the higher the cost.   Once the concrete has cracked down to smaller pieces it is more difficult to treat - so call us before this happens!

There are many reasons why this happens. The soil foundation underneath your concrete slab structure has compacted (settled) unevenly over time. Water drainage issues can erode the soil underneath also, leaving the same effect. It’s also possible the soil composition beneath was improperly compacted, or may not have been done at all.

Definitely. A squirrel or chipmunk that decides to bury its winter bounty somewhat underneath a concrete slab structure will leave voids (empty spaces) that disrupt the stability of the foundation.

This is a long list when stating the benefits of mudjacking over replacement. A primary concern to the majority of consumers would have to be the significant cost savings. Mudjacking repairs are finished in hours, not days. No permits are required and little to no disruption of surrounding landscape.

This can only be done if the hardscaping materials were placed on top of an existing concrete slab structure.

After inspecting and assessing the problem with a wood home that has become uneven, there are ways to tackle this problem. You may need new piers or load-bearing beams. It’s also possible to shim these piers and beams after jacking up the structure.

The process of the soil foundation underneath a concrete slab structure settling can be greatly accelerated by prolonged storage of a huge pile of firewood, an RV or boat, etc. It will cause uneven settling and may raise a side or corner across from the excessive weight.

Theoretically, yes, depending on the condition of the concrete slab. If there is significant damage from cracking and crumbling, the only solution may be replacement.

Not really. However, in order to eliminate a trip-and-fall hazard, the adjacent concrete slab structures can be raised to a position that’s level with the slab you want to raise.

Again, a trip-and-fall hazard can be eliminated by raising the adjacent concrete structures until they are level with the structure that’s been raised by tree roots.

It shouldn’t and it won’t. Not if you call Jax Mudjacking to do your repairs!
